At FSU Law Library we conduct periodic quality control checks by recording
call numbers of several randomly selected books in our pre-shelving area.
After the books are shelved, we check to see if they were placed correctly.
We then post the percentages for correctly shelved and misshelved items.
This works well because no one student is singled out unnecessarily, but
the group as a whole is on notice that we are monitoring performance and
also care about the condition of the shelves. Also it really doesn't take
much time.
