Re: Regent Redux Revived

Hi all-

I finally felt I needed to add my 2 cents. I was out of the
office until Monday, and then the system was down until
yesterday afternoon.

Frankly I was shocked at the discussion involving Regent
University's hiring policies and Rich Leiter. I completely
agree with Michael, that Hiring policies of Law Librarians is
a topic important enough to be discussed on this list.

However, When such discussions reach a level of personal
flame war, that should be done in private, through personal
e-mail. These discussions over discrimination in hiring are
bound to be heated and are very important. We must keep them
at an adult level, though. We are well educated people. We
certainly should not stoop to the level of debate often used
by those who do discriminate.

No matter how we feel about the Regent University, its hiring
practices and its mission, we should never allow ourselves to
personify it, with the possible exception of Pat Robertson. It
is not Richard Leiter's fault that Regent is what they are. He
did not develope the criteria that they use, and I'm sure he was
simply trying to help when he poster the ad.
We here at Howard University welcome Richard Leiter into our
culture of broad diversity, with open arms. At the same time I
do not condone or excuse Regent for what I, personally, view as
an abhorrant view toward life, and atrocious hiring policies.

Brian-
