Date: 06/14/94

The following motion revising AALL's Placement Policy was adopted
unanimously by the Executive Board at its last meeting on April 30:

That the AALL Executive Board endorse the principles embodied in both th
_Final Report of the AALS Executive Committee Regulation 6.17 Working
Group_ (adopted by the Executive Committee of the AALS on August 5,
1993) and the revised ABA Standard 211 (and accompanying
Interpretations) adopted by the Council of the Section of Legal
Education and Admissions to the Bar at its January 28-29, 1994 meeting.

That the wording of the statement accompanying AALL employment listings
be amended to read as follows:

"AALL accepts two types of placement listings. The first section will
include positions at institutions that have adopted or pursue policies
not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national
origin, disability or sexual orientation in the employment of librarians
and staff. Following these listings will be a separate category for law
schools having a religious affiliation or purpose that wish to exercise
their rights under the First Amendment of the United States
Constitution to apply employment policies related to that affiliation or
purpose. These provide a preference for persons adhering to the
religious affiliation or purpose of the law school, but shall not be
applied to preclude applicants on the basis of race, color, religion,
sex, national origin, disability or sexual orientation. Any law school
so exercising its Constitutional right shall make available to the AALL
Placement Committee and to interested potential applicants information
explaining the religious beliefs, values, and practices of the
institution so that informed decisions about whether to apply are
possible."
