A partner has recently approached me and has told me of his
vision for the future. He wants to take all of the old firm briefs
and pleadings (which we have in hard copy) and SCAN them into a system
that could be then searched for the firm's "collective knowledge" on
a particular subject.
I have explained that there is a necessary editing process that must
take place when documents are scanned into a database that is
searchable. Usually, this process is labor intensive and expensive.
He still likes the idea and wants to know more about the possibilities.
I would like to hear from those of you who have done this sort of
a project about your experiences with it. If you would be willing
to communicate with me on this please e-mail me. I'm interested in all
aspects of this type of project, cost, equipment, pitfalls, successes.
