COMPUTER APPLICATIONS/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The following is a new position at Northwestern School of Law of
Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN DUTIES:
     
     Provides support for WordPerfect, DOS, Windows, and Paradox to
all faculty, staff and students; creates and coordinates ongoing
training for faculty, staff and students with regard to the above;
assists in instructing faculty, staff and students in the use of
Westlaw and Lexis; creates and implements specialized macros, batch
files, menus, templates, etc.; works with faculty on hypertext
lesson development; troubleshoots problems that may involve
hardware and software; maintains records of all software purchased,
including installation location and date, versions, and licensing
information; maintains master diskettes and documentation
libraries; assists in maintenance of lab computers; evaluates new
and upgraded products for application in the Law School and
Library; provides assistance to students, attorneys and lay patrons
by working at the Reference Desk on a rotating basis with other
librarians; creates, edits and distributes monthly newsletter.
     
     Reports to the Computer Systems Specialist and the Assistant
Librarian for Reference Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

     JD from ABA accredited school and extensive experience with
DOS PCs required. MLS from an accredited program or Master's in a
computer-related discipline and at least 1-2 years of professional
experience in a legal environment preferred. Must have
demonstrated mastery of WordPerfect, DOS and Windows as well as
good troubleshooting ability. Good interpersonal, organizational
and problem-solving skills. Candidates should possess and be able
to demonstrate sound knowledge of legal and nonlegal resources in
various media as well as appropriate research methodology.
Demonstrated proficiency with Westlaw and Lexis. Ability to work
harmoniously with colleagues as well as with faculty, staff and
students in a busy, changing environment is essential.

     The following are also desirable: experience with Paradox,
spreadsheet programs, desktop publishing software, programming
languages, Unix, Novell Netware, and Macintosh computers and
applications; experience teaching software applications to others,
and ability to present technical information comprehensibly and
clearly to nontechnical audiences; experience teaching Westlaw and
Lexis; experience with CALI, authoring tools or hypertext software;
familiarity with Innovative Interfaces library systems and with use
of the Internet.

SALARY:

     Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent
benefits. Some evening hours required.
