One (possible) advantage of letting students have their passwords
before training is that they will learn -- the hard way -- that CALR will
not always save them time or give them better answers. This is not
something that they want to believe when we tell them in class. You
can bet if they have the passwords they will use the systems,
training or no. And they will waste a lot of time. It is an awfully hard
way to learn this, though, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Why not try giving students their passwords but have access limited
to the job-hunting databases until they get their formal training? Our
rep's have suggested that to us and we are considering it for next
year. If the students have been to job-hunting training, it might cut
down the amount of time we have to train them to sign on, choose
databases, etc.
