We are about to begin the construction of a new library building
and are doing some evaluation of our collection in preparation
for the move. One of the areas we are going to look at are the
Shepard's Citators for the states.
Several libraries have cancelled some or all of their state
Shepards. I would appreciate it if anyone who has gone through
the process of evaluating and cancelling their Shepards would be
willing to give me some background information as to what went
into the decision and the resulting reaction.
We are talking to the Legal Writing Faculty here at BC who make
use of the state Shepards in their research problems. The two
librarians I have spoken to already indicated this was an area of
concern for them when deciding to cancel state Shepards. Also I
would be interested in what alternate means of access were considered
online, CD-ROM, etc. I would also like to know which states were
considered "indispensable," if any.
I would be happy to share with any interested parties the results
of this survey. Thanks.
