Re: LEXIS for 1st-semester students?

Here at Cooley Law School the students do not receive their Westlaw or
Lexis passwords until their third term. The students take research and
writing in their 2nd term and the Profs. teaching these courses have
expressly asked that the students do not receive their passwords until
after they have completed research and writing. The Profs. want to be
sure that our students learn to use the books and eliminate that
temptation to look it up online. The students still receive
their password in the 1st term since we are a year round school and teach
three terms a year. Students are required to receive training on a least
one of the systems. The Librarians teach a one time three hour Intro. to
CALR courses which the student must complete (in either Westlaw ofr Lexis) in
order to receive a grade in Advocacy (a required course). The students may
also take a one hour Intro. optional course in the other service which
is taught by the Westlaw or Lexis rep.
