LRI tapes on OPACs

Cross-post to LAW-LIB and INNOPAC listservs please forgive the duplication.

The Thomas M. Cooley Law Library is currently considering loading the LRI
tapes onto our INNOPAC system and we would like our students to have
access to the Legal Resource Index via dial access into our OPAC.
It was stated in the v.4, #2 April 1993 issue of IN FORUM (Information
Access Inc. promotional newsletter) that site licensing agreements do
restrict access to a specified clientele and passwords are therefore
required for dial-in access.

Our INNOPAC system is not connected to a network, gateway, or any other
front-end which allows a password. IIIs solution was to leave LRI off of
our dial access menu.

In speaking to representatives of IAC I received conflicting responses.
One representative told me that we absolutely could not provide dial-in
access without a password under any circumstances and another (the sales
representative) said that they would not want to lose a sale over that
issue. If our system could not provide a password they would allow dial-in
access. He thought there were other libraries that were doing this.

My questions are:

        1. Are there any other libraries using the LRI tape product which
are providing dial-in access without a password.

        2. Has anyone been able to offer dial access without a password by
paying a fee or adding another section to the licensing agreement.

        3. Does the LRI product satisfy WESTs "has LegalTrac" requirement
so that LRI is available to the law students via WESTLAW.
