The Suffolk University Law School Library is seeking applications
for the position of Computer and Electronic Services Librarian. A
position description is attached.

The Suffolk Law School Library serves a student body of 1,600 and
a full-time faculty of 65. The Law School has both Day and Evening
Divisions. The Law Library is committed to a program of pro-active
service designed to make it an increasingly integral part of the
teaching and educational mission of the Law School. The staff of 9
professional librarians and 14 support staff is friendly and the
atmosphere is energetic and highly congenial.

The Law School is located in the heart of Boston on historic Beacon
Hill. Cultural, sporting, and other recreational opportunities
abound. Similarly, the network of libraries and educational
opportunities available in the area is unsurpassed.

         COMPUTER AND ELECTRONIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN

The Suffolk University Law School Library is seeking candidates for
an exciting new position which will greatly assist its educational
and research mission. We envision that the Computer and Electronic
Services Librarian will act as our Law Library's principle link to
the world of electronic information sources. This position will
have a significant impact on how our electronic and computer
assisted services will be developed over the near term and the long
range. We also anticipate that the person holding this position
will eventually have significant teaching responsibilities,
internally among the library staff and externally among our faculty
and student body. Many of these teaching opportunities will arise
from the incumbent's own ideas and initiative. This position is a
wonderful opportunity for a dynamic individual interested in
helping the Law Library chart an effective course through the
informational and research challenges of a new age of technological
possibilities.

DUTIES:

Create long and short range plans for the use of computer-based
technology by the Law Library.

Keep abreast of the cutting edge of developments in computer-based
technology and translate these developments into plans that will
further the educational and research mission of the Law Library.

Develop methods and proposals to integrate computer-based
technology into the formal and informal educational program of the
Law School: including CALR, CALI, etc.

Integrate computer-based technology into the research activities of
the Law School faculty.

Train library staff and faculty and students in the use of
computer-based technology.

Promote the use of technology among faculty, students, and staff.

Write guides and other forms of user-friendly documentation to
assist staff and patrons with the use of computer-based end user
products.

Responsible for day-to-day trouble shooting and simple maintenance
and repairs for all Law Library owned computers and software.

Work to become an expert in all aspects of the Internet and train
those in the Law School community who may have need/interest
regarding any of the services available via the Internet.

Participate in the selection, implementation and maintenance of a
Law Library LAN.

Investigate and recommend computer-based technology for possible
acquisition by the Law Library.

Primary Law Library liaison with LEXIS/WESTLAW Representatives.

Primary Law Library liaison with other computer-based technology
vendors.

Law Library liaison with University MIS Department and Law School
Computer Services personnel to co-ordinate computer development
within the Law School.

Law Library's active representative to the technology/informational
world. Anticipated activities would include: writing; attendance at
relevant meetings and presentations; participation with related
organizations and associations.

Some traditional Reference duties are included as part of the
successful candidates responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

M.L.S. from ALA accredited school; knowledge of PC applications,
databases, and software; desire to teach; ability to work
successfully both independently and as part of a team; self-
starter; excellent writing and oral skills; and desire to become
expert in all aspects of information technology as they are related
to academic law libraries.

DESIRED:

J.D. degree or Law School study; experience with computer
applications as related to libraries; experience working in a law
library; and teaching experience.

SALARY:

Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
