Moving: Forward: Reconceptualizing Resources and Services in
Recessionary Times

Saturday, July 10, 1993
8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

CO-DIRECTORS:
James Milles

Judith A. Kaul
Technology Reference Librarian
Case Western Reserve University Law Library

Anne Myers
Head of Technical Services
Boston University Law Library

"Downsizing" is one of the catchwords of the '90s. Many law
libraries have had to make difficult decisions when faced with
static or decreasing budgets. At the same time, however, many
law librarians are finding creative and innovative ways,
particularly through the use of technology, to expand both
services and resources available to their users. Law libraries
are continuing to implement online catalogs with exciting new
capabilities; networking technology likewise continues to be
implemented and expanded.

This workshop will offer participants an opportunity to gain new,
practical ideas from academic, law firm, and state, court and
county law librarians who are leaders in providing innovative
services and resources without immense budgets. Areas to be
presented include: strategic planning for technology
implementation; gaining administrative support (from law school
deans, law firm partners, and legislatures); cost-effective
methods for expanding resources and services; and cooperative
solutions on the local, statewide, and regional level.
Concurrent small discussion groups will provide the opportunity
to try out ideas developed during the workshop.
