Subject: bambino contract endangered
Quite recently, the Boston herald ran a story entitled something like,
"Red Sox Curse Could End," in which the current owner of the contract that
documented the sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees offered to give the contract
(for which he paid about $90,000) to the Red Sox if they would be willing to
burn it at home plate at Fenway Park on opening day, 1995, in order to try to
break the curse that has plagued the team since that fateful sale (they haven't
won a championship since 1918).
Given that burning such an historic manuscript would be sheer heresy, I
thought that the readers of this list should know about this possibility. It
would make much more sense to auction the contract off, and donate the proceeds
in the name of the Red Sox to a charity that has been named for the Babe; there
must be a Babe Ruth Cancer Society, or some such organization that could
benefit from such a sale.
