Esteemed Colleagues (Who Aren't in Seattle!)
I have a Professor here who needs a copy of 3 Sm.L. 186 (1794 April 22).
I finally consulted Surrency's Research In Pennsylvania Law which
identified this cite as Smith's Laws a 10 v. set published 1810-1829.
According to Surrency, Smith's is arranged by the original Pamphlet
citations, but according to the current v.18 sec. 2501 of Purdon's there
isn't any parallel pamphlet citation.
I also inferred from Surrency that this law could also have been
published in Statutes At Large, an 18 v. set covering 1700-1800, but I
could be mistaken.
This law has to do with the establishment of degrees of homicide.
Could someone email or fax me this law ASAP. Please respond to me
directly, not to the list.
As a bonus question, my patron seems to think that an earlier case
actually established these degrees before the statutes--but Purdon's and
the Pennsylvania Digest don't lead me to any case older than 1796, two
years after the statute. Anyone who could provide this cite would earn my
eternal gratitude.
Thanks in advance.
