cross-posted to lawlib and teknoids:
To demonstrate access to compact disk (CD) networking across
INTERNET, Washburn University School of Law library has temporarily
linked the following compact disk databases to WASHLAW:
1) Wilson Index to Legal Periodicals
2) Marchive GPO Monthly Catalog
Temporary access to these items will be made available until July
20, 1994 (following the AALL convention). This project is made
possible by a federal grant.
The approach has also been found to work (with some limitations)
with:
Bibliofile (Library Corp)
Kansas Library Catalog
Casebase K-ware
West Publishing Premise Products
Hein Treaties- (also Premise)
We are deeply indebted to Wilson and Marchive, for their
willingness to participate in this test. Please understand that
this is not intended to be an evaluation of either Wilson or
Marchive products.
Access to the compact disk network is made available
using software called "Everywhere Access", Supro Network Software
Inc., P.O. Box 18, Warsaw, Ontario, Canada (705) 652-1572.
You can access the compact disks by telneting to acc.wuacc.edu.
Login as washlaw. Follow the menu on WASHLAW to COMPACT DISK
NETWORK.
Pitfalls:
1) If you are familiar with Wilson and Marchive, the keyboard will
"behave" very differently than you are used to. Please follow the
WASHLAW menu closely. Hopefully, we can solve the keyboard
problem in the future.
2) Only ONE USER may use ANY ONE of the disks at ONE TIME (as we have
currently installed the technology.)
3) Hopefully, future technology will make this more practical.
Please direct comments to Mark Folmsbee, zzfolm@acc.wuacc.edu.
