Sorry for the duplication. JGM)

It seems like every SIS is submitting a program proposal about
the Internet for the 1994 meeting! Well, a bunch of us have been
talking about this, and we'd like to try something new:
COORDINATION.

The interested parties are Sally Wambold, Marsha Baum, Mary
Chapman, Phyllis Post, Vianne Tang Sha, Lyo Louis-Jacques, Paul
Zarins, Jim Mumm, Anne Myers, and me. We are proposing that we
combine the Internet-related proposals into a two-part workshop:

Part One: Saturday. "Managing the Internet: Finding Your Way
In." Level: beginners. How to get access to the Internet, and
how to get trained; how the Internet can be used for legal
research (state, federal, foreign and international) and for
library work; how to find discussion lists and other resources of
interest; introduction to security/confidentiality issues.

Part Two: Thursday. "Managing the Internet: Finding Your Way
Out." Level: intermediate/advanced. How to manage the flow of
information; managing the burden of keeping up with discussion
lists and newsgroups; keeping up with new sources on the
Internet; how to become an information supplier on the Internet
(gopher, WWW, WAIS); advanced discussion of
security/confidentiality issues.

By making use of the Internet Room (which will be available again
next year, by hook or by crook), some people who start out as
beginners on Saturday may even be ready for the
intermediate/advanced workshop on Thursday!

If you are working on an Internet-related proposal, please get in
touch with Sally Wambold (wambold@urvax.urich.edu). We'd like to
combine all these ideas into a well-organized dual workshop. Even
if you want to submit your proposal separately, it will be
helpful for all of us to know what each of us are working on.
