I am curious about what you had in mind for volunteers, re law prof
lists. I would love to work on law prof list, but I am not an
institution that can run a list server. Anyway I can help if I am
limited to a mail connection?

***** NOTES from David Kiefer (DKIEFER @ KENTNET) at 7/19/93 1:09p
I am considering starting a Law professor list here at Chicago-Kent. It
would be beneficial to have a law professor moderate or "own" this list.
Our listserver software can be set up to have a list owner located anywhere
in the country - you will only need to be able to telnet into our machine
to run the maintenance tasks, which are not very onerous. I see you have
an MCI mail connection to the internet. I am not sure if you have the
capability to telnet throught MCI, and if you are being charged per
message or anything like that, it would quickly become very expensive.

As far as the list itself, I had thought that we could start one called
LAWPROF-L, or something like that, that would just be for law professors
(the membership of the list could be monitored and strictly restricted to
law professors if there was such a desire). It has been suggested here
that such a list would be too broad, and that in light of the current
trend on the Internet to be more specific and "niched", and with the
relatively low tolerance of some people (particularly law professors, no
offense) for irrelevant information, we may want to make a few listservs
with more specific topics, like TAXPROF, INTLAWPROF, TORTSPROF,
CONLAWPROF, etc., etc., to have tighter "communities". Tom Bruce and
others have suggested that we "seed" these groups with some anchor
subscribers, like yourself. I am taking the liberty of posting this
message around to see what other volunteers we come up with.
