Re: Faculty Bibliographies

We settled on WordPerfect, because the other db-type software
packages we also felt were more trouble than they were worth.

I wanted to bring up another point, though, that for us was more
important than production method: the question of citation format.
We settled on U. of Chicago format, rather than 'Bluebook,' as it
prescribed the most complete, i.e. spelled-out, least abbreviated,
form of journal titles. If the intention is to make the faculty
bibliography available and searchable online, rather than simply
generate a hardcopy edition, the standard abbreviated citation
formats are worthless. When these hybrid-formatted, online-
accessible bibliographies are produced in hard copy, however, they do
look peculiar -- 'out of their element,' but at least they are
usable either printed or online.
