Position vacancy: CATALOGER
Tarlton Law Library is now inviting applications for a vacancy in its
Cataloging Department. The Library is a special member of the Research
Libraries Group and has installed all modules of the INNOPAC system. The
successful candidate will report to the Head Cataloger and be part of a unit
consisting of 7.75 FTE responsible for the cataloging, classification, and
processing of the Library's print and non-print resources.
Description: Perform on-line cataloging at all descriptive levels to include
the adaptation of Library of Congress cataloging, the editing of RLIN shared
cataloging records, and original bibliographic description. Perform subject
analysis and classification, assign and verify item classification based on
Library of Congress classification system. Provide subject access points
complementing item content and corresponding to the item's classification.
Justify and establish forms of names and uniform titles serving as access
points to any bibliographic description. Recatalog and reclassify as needed.
Update on-line holdings information as required.
Requirements: MLS from ALA-accredited institution; at least two years
experience in cataloging at all levels from original to copy cataloging;
reading ability of at least one modern European language; thorough knowledge
of AACR2, 1988 ed., national level bibliographic input standards, MARC
tagging, and Library of Congress classification and subject headings
practice; familiarity with at least one national bibliographic utility
(preferably RLIN) and integrated library system (preferably INNOPAC).
Preferred: Law library experience; reading ability of German; experience in
cataloging in variety of material formats.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
