One resource I've found helpful: "The Sourcebook of Local Court and
County Record Retrievers", from BRB Publications, Inc., 800-929-3764.
Only $45. (Quoting from the order form) "A county-by-county directory,
listing and profiling firms and individuals who 'hands-on' retrieve
criminal, civil, and probate case files at the county, state, US District
and Bankruptcy courts, and lien, tax, real estate, and vital statistics at
local county offices. 432+ pages". Local document services are often
just as fast, and often cheaper, than nation-wide services. BTW, BRB
Publications has other neat reference books, too.
