 Good eye, Barbara!

According to the NY Times, CJ Rehnquist designed his new robe after
one he saw in a local production of a Gilbert & Sullivan musical.

Learned Hand was also a big Gilbert & Sullivan fan. Is this a mark
 of judicial temperament?

Were my eyes deceiving me at the broadcast of Tuesday's State of the
Union Address, or was Justice Rehnquist wearing a robe with gold braid
stipes on the sleeves? Is this new Judicial Fashion, or have we in the
hinterlands just missed something? Is there significance to gold stripes
on judicial garb? Please inform.
