An Eastern European law library has asked us for a list of the
twenty "best" books published in the U.S. since 1990 in each of the
following areas: commercial law, labor law, social security law, and
corporations. The problem, of course, is far too much data.
Quantification (e.g., titles held by many libraries; titles reviewed in
journals) does not seem to reduce the numbers sufficiently. There seem to
be no N.Y. Times-style lists of "best" books in these areas. Does anyone
know a way to approach this other than relying on faculty members, whose
recommendations would probably reflect their own interests, perspectives,
and quirks?
