H.R. 3400 Passes in the House

The House of Representatives passed the Government Reform and
Savings Act of 1993 on November 22. Title XIV of H.R. 3400
transferred the position and all functions of the Superintendent of
Documents, including the Depository Library Program, to the Library
of Congress. A proposal to transfer all the other functions of the
Public Printer to the Executive Branch was omitted from the final
version of the bill leaving the Government Printing Office in the
legislative branch.

The Senate has scheduled hearings on Title XIV of the bill on
February 3rd and 10th. A representative from the American Library
Association is scheduled to testify at those hearings. AALL is
preparing to submit its own testimony on the proposed changes.

Public Printer Nomination Confirmed

On November 9, 1993, the Senate confirmed Michael F. DiMario as
Public Printer to head the Government Printing Office.
