A few months back I posted a message about whether anyone had found a
program that would help in making a map of the library. Several people
wrote to say they used generic drawing programs, but we didn't have such an
animal and I didn't know how to use one. On Monday I needed something to
take mind of the aftershocks, so I sat down and tried a new program I picked
up at Egghead a while back, and this one worked great.
It's called Floorplan Plus (Computereasy). Luckily Egghead was patient
with me. The first software I tried was hopeless. There was simply no way
to line up such things as shelves in an even way since there was no grid. I
also tried another one that was 3-D, but that was way too complicated and I
couldn't figure it out. Floorplan Plus was just right. The most important
feature is a grid that you use to line up furniture, walls, etc. It also
has a snap feature that can be turned on or off. With snap turned on,
anything you place or draw on the screen will line up on the nearest grid.
It is very easy to move items around as well. It is much easier to use if
you have a mouse, but it will work without one.
The cost of this software was about $40.00. I highly recommend it.
