A professor asked me to locate info on the Uruguay round of the
GATT. I muddled around and came across some useful things that I
thought I would share. If everyone already knows about these
sources, well..., now I know too.
1. The U.S Department of Commerce has set up an 800 line for
GATT info. The "Uruguay Round Hotline" can be reached at
1-800-872-8723.
YOU NEED A TOUCH TONE PHONE TO NAVIGATE THE MENUS ON THE
HOTLINE. YOU ALSO NEED A FAX MACHINE.
The first time you connect, the system will ask for your fax
number and telephone number. It will also tell you to request the
menu of available documents by keying in the order number 1000.
The menu is faxed to you within 10-15 minutes. Select from the
menu the document numbers that you want (up to two per call),
call back, key in the order numbers, and you will receive fax
copies.
There are at least 100 documents available. Most are
overviews that are 2-4 pages in length. I requested documents on
"Dispute Settlement Understanding", and "GATT Articles".
2. I telneted to fedworld.gov and found that NTIS is publishing
a 500 page GATT document entitled:
"Final Act Embodying the Results of the Uruguay Round of
Multilateral Trade Negotiations."
The document costs $30.00 (plus $3 shipping). It is
available in paper, or as a WordPerfect document you can
download, or as a WordPerfect document on disk.
