Re: Law-Related Films/Videos

Since "public performances" of video movies are not licensed, how do those
who screen these movies for law student groups meet copyright requirements?
I recently screened a production that was made for classroom use for a CLE
class that was attended by 5 people. I first obtained an opinion from our
bar association cle director, who agreed with me that even that showing was
arguably a violation, but that the association's position, which he felt was
equally or more defensible, was that it was not. It seems to me that showing
one of these films for pure entertainment would be a clear violation unless
permission or some type of license beyond the standard home viewing was
granted.
