My rep gave me plenty of advance notice of the changes even to the extent of
identifying our users who had ECLIPSES running in OMNI. Moreover, the
October issue of the LEXIS update newsletter indicated that changes were
coming to NEXIS. While it's true the NEXIS changes create inconvenience
particularly for our faculty and librarians, at least the company is
conscientiously trying to respond to concerns academic librarians have
expressed. I'm sympathetic to my colleagues taken by surprise. Mead has
certainly gotten much better at communicating, but apparently has a way to
go. Since law librarians don't speak with one voice, and because the
vendors are balancing the needs of all their customers, I guess we'll never
all be satisfied with responsive changes. I know that LAW-LIB serves as a
place to commiserate, but it can also be a place to encourage. So if you're
one of the lucky MDC subscribers with a rep who keeps you posted, thank him
or her. And if these NEXIS changes are creating havoc with your program,
don't forget, print policy is next... beware.
