The following two positions are available at the
University of San Francisco Law Library:

TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN,
UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO LAW LIBRARY

The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for
the administration and management of acquisitions,
serials control, cataloging, retrospective
conversion, bindery, processing and automated
library system functions of the Law Library,
overseeing the activities of one professional
Cataloging Librarian, three library assistants and
several student employees. The Technical Services
Librarian coordinates collection development
activities including preparation and revision of
collection development policies and procedures;
evaluation of the legal collection in relation to
curriculum and patron requirements; and supervision
of all acquisitions including depository documents,
gifts and duplicates. The Technical Services
Librarian serves as the liaison/coordinator with
University Library and administrative staff for the
Innovative Interfaces automated library system.
The Technical Services Librarian, together with
other law librarians, takes an active role in the
overall administration of the law library by
participating in planning, development of policy
and procedure, selection and evaluation of
personnel, and budget preparation. The Technical
Services Librarian participates in weekend
reference service. The person hired for this
position will play a key role in assisting the
Director with planning for a new, state-of-the-art
library building. The Technical Services Librarian
reports to the Director of the Law Library.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS degree or
equivalent; J.D. preferred but will accept
demonstrated knowledge of law and legal materials;
at least 4 years demonstrated managerial and
supervisory ability in Technical Services,
preferably in academic law libraries; demonstrated
knowledge of library serials and acquisitions and
of LC cataloging practice and RLIN; supervisory
experience and demonstrated knowledge of the
INNOVAC/INNOPAC modules. Strong service-
orientation, interpersonal and organizational
skills; excellent oral and written communication
skills are a must. Competency on Macintosh or DOS
microcomputer is desirable.

HIRING RANK: Associate Librarian Level or
Librarian Level. This position is part of the
Associated Law Professors bargaining unit and while
not a faculty track position, has status, security
and professional leave provisions. The University

SALARY: Competitive; Commensurate with

SENIOR REFERENCE LIBRARIAN, UNIVERSITY OF SAN
FRANCISCO LAW LIBRARY

The University of San Francisco Law School serves a
population of 700 law students and faculty with day
and evening divisions. The Reference Librarian
takes a lead role in providing legal reference
service, and bibliographic and online instruction
to students, faculty and other patrons. The
Reference Librarian is also responsible for
maintaining the non-print collection and for
handling ILLs. Responsibility for reference
service is shared by the Public Services Librarian
and the Computer Services/Reference Librarian. All
librarians participate in weekend reference
service. The Reference Librarian, together with
other law librarians, takes an active role in
collection development, department and library
policy and procedure planning and implementation,
selection and training of personnel. The Reference
Librarian will also participate in planning a
state-of-the-art library building.

REQUIREMENTS: MLS or equivalent and JD from
accredited institutions. Demonstrated knowledge of
law and legal materials, LEXIS, WESTLAW and
computer applications (DOS or Macintosh). Minimum
of three years law library reference experience.
Excellent service-orientation, interpersonal
skills, oral and written communication skills are a
must. Teaching experience is desirable.

HIRING RANK: Senior Assistant level or above.
This position is part of the Associated Law
Professors bargaining unit, and while not a faculty
position, has excellent status, security, and
