AALL Ethics Task Force

SUBJECT: AALL Ethics Task Force

The AALL Task Force on Ethics that Mark Estes referred to in his earlier
posting is charged with reviewing the AALL Code of Ethics, making
recommendations on the need for revision of the Code, and examining broader
issues of ethics and librarianship. We expect to report to the Executive Board
at its April meeting.

While we are looking at codes of ethics of other library and law-related
organizations, at this point it is just for comparison and not for evaluation.
I have not seen a copy of the draft Code of Ethics for Law Reviews, but we
would be happy to look at it if someone can refer me to a source. At the
present time AALL does not have an Ethics Committee or any mechanism to
provide comments on other organizations' draft documents. That is one of the
issues that the Task Force can address in its report to the Board.

If anyone is interested in providing the Task Force with some feedback, the
AALL Code of Ethics can be found in the AALL Directory and Handbook. (Watch
your mail for the 1992-93 edition.) Comments can be directed to me or to the
other Task Force members: Fred Baum, Martha Dragich, Teresa Pritchard.
