In my present library, and in fact, all of my past libraries,
physical processing of books and serials has been under the
umbrella of the Cataloging Department. However, when you
think about it, a good portion of the things that are processed
aren't from catalogers at all - they are volumes back from the
bindery or things received by the Serials staff.
Now that we are all integrated and automated and all that neat
techie stuff, we are rethinking the workflow and responsibility
clusters within Technical Services. Moving book processing to
Serials is under consideration. Has anyone else made this
particular change? Or has had serials in charge of processing
all along? Or has a completely better idea?
I'd be interested in any comments or responses you may have.
Thanks in advance for your help.
