The University of Southern California Law Library has
two openings available for the position of Reference
Librarian. Both positions report to the Assistant
Director for Public Services. The Public Services
Department is presenting undergoing some refocusing of
its work. The Department consists of 6 librarians and
2.5 FTE staff members. There are 4 other librarians and
7 other staff members in the library.
DUTIES: Along with other memebrs of the Public Services
Department, the Reference Librarians provide legal and
non-legal reference assistance to students and faculty,
including the preparation of bibliographies; assist in the
instruction of Westlaw/Lexis to students and faculty;
participate in instruction and preparation of materials for
first-year legal research course and advanced legal researc
course; participate in collection development.
REQUIREMENTS: M.L.S. from A.L.A. approved school; J.D. from
A.B.A. approved school; strong service orientation; excellent
organizational skills; strong interpersonal skills; working
knowledge of Lexis/Nexis and Westlaw/Dialog
One of the two Reference Librarians will also be responsible
for providing reference services in international and
foreign law and collection development in selected areas of
international and foreign law; Additional requirements
including a working knowledge of or willingness to acquire
knolwedge of international and foreign law materials and
reading knowledge of French or German or willingness to
learn.
