Interesting question! I'm not sure where the paradox/parable
comes from, however, someone suggested looking for it in "The Sign of the
Rose" which is an incorrect citation. So as not to increase confustion, the
book title is 'The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco. As stated, this book
is HUGE and I wouldn't want to have to look through it either! Good luck
in uncovering the mystery.
