This is a general question to everyone concerning the changes with Nexis.
I, for one, am not happy. One day, I type Nexis;SDDT to access the San
Diego Daily Transcript and now (for ease of use, they tell me) I have to
type News;busdtl;publication(san diego daily transcript) and blah blah
blah (blah blah blah being my actual search). NOW, please explain to me
how this makes my job easier. I used to type 10 characters, now I have to
type 51 to get to the same place in the database. Again, HOW is this easier,
please tell me!!!
I understand that Lexis wanted to upgrade and improve their Nexis service,
however, a gradual switch would have been nice. I did not enjoy having an
attorney waiting in my office while I fumbled around looking for a
database that existed one place one day and who knows where the next.
Moreover, one of our librarians in another office was on the phone with a
Nexis representative and it took them 20 minutes to find the new location
of a file she needed.
What are your thoughts on this? Is anyone having problems? Don't you
think they should have changed over a period of time? Don't you think
they should have provided us with new Library Contents Guides BEFORE the
switch? Let me hear from you. Thanks.
