This is a request directed to SWALL members for recruitment
of speakers at the SWALL Annual Meeting; other colleagues
may want to delete this message before reading further.
The SWALL Continuing Education has planned two program
sessions for Saturday morning on topics of current interest.
The Committee has had some difficulty recruiting speakers,
so we are turning now to the membership for help.
As you may know, the Continuing Education Committee's charge
is to plan a program to "showcase" talent from within the
Chapter. That is, all of the speakers in the Saturday morning
program must be SWALL members.
One program selected for this year is on local-area
networks. For this, the Committee is looking for SWALL members
from law firms or from state or court libraries with LANs. We
have recruited a speaker from academia who will describe some of
the factors to take into consideration when designing a LAN
initially. We want the law firm and the state, court, and
county librarians' perspectives. This is a chance to tell
others how good you are. We want presentations of about 12-15
minutes.
The other program for Saturday morning is on the Internet, and we
need speakers, again particularly from law firms and state or
court libraries. We have not yet recruited a prinicipal speaker
who will provide an overview of Internet (e.g., Internet
connectivity), but we are in the process. We need the
perspectives of law firm and state, court, and county
librarians describing how to get connected and how to use
Internet. Again, we want 12-15 minute presentations.
Don't be shy!! If you have the knowledge that we are
seeking in a speaker, please contact me. Or, if you know of a
SWALL member who would be an excellent speaker, again,
please contact me. AND SOON! We would like to select the
speakers within the next two weeks.
