Blacks worldwide (in honor of Black History Month)

February is Black History Month in the United States, so I thought I'd take a
look at what information is available on the Nets concerning
African-Americans and other Black people worldwide.

In terms of e-mail lists/discussion groups, Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs),
Usenet newsgroups, etc., there are the lists maintained by Arthur McGee,
information about which was posted on INT-LAW weeks ago. The lists are also
available via the Saint Louis University gopher:

>gopher sluava.slu.edu
   #8 Library Services
      #3 Law Library Services
#7 Human Rights and International Law Resources
             #1 Black/African/Development Info
             #10 Indigenous/Native/Aboriginal Info
(other materials under the "Human Rights" menu are also
             relevant)

There is also the Electronic Archive against Xenophobia, for Tolerance at the
University of Saarland in Saarbruecken, Germany (in German, "Archiv gegen
Auslaenderfeindlichkeit, Rassismus und Nationalismus"), information about
which was posted on INT-LAW months ago. How to get there:

>gopher pfsparc02.phil15.uni-sb.de
   Choose #12 ("INFO-SYSTEM BENUTZEN..."), then #13 ("Aktuelle u. div.
Infos, u.a. Archiv gegen Auslaenderfeindlichkeit"), then #1 ("Archiv gegen
Auslaenderfeindlichkeit, Rassismus u. Nationalismus")

You can also do a Veronica search of all the world's gophers at your local
gopher. I searched gopherspace for the following words: "blacks",
"xenophobia", "racism". I got the full text of news stories such as
several articles on "Euro-Racism", messages posted on archived
listserv lists (ACTIV-L for instance) and Usenet newsgroups, pointers
to gopher sites, school course descriptions, etc.

Peace,
Lyo.
