As Karl Gruben announced earlier on this list, John Johnson died last Friday,
after the cancer he had been fighting over the past year reappeared. John's
tenure at Mead Data over the past 15 years, including a stint as the Director of
Law School Programs, brought him into contact with many law librarians, and
quite a few of us viewed him as a colleague and a friend. He is survived by his
wife, Jo McDermott (who is also a long-time Mead Data employee) and several
children (including two who they recently adopted following their parents' death
from cancer).
For John's many other friends, I would like to share the details I learned
concerning funeral arrangments and related matters. The funeral will be held in
Dayton, Ohio, at the Shiloh Church, 5300 Philadelphia Drive, this Thursday, at 3
p.m. A wake will be held beforehand on Wednesday, from 3 - 8 p.m., at the Baker
Hazel Funeral Home, 555 Philadelphia Drive, in Dayton.
Donations in John's memory may be sent to one of three organizations: The
Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Drive, Dayotn, Ohio 45420; M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center, 1515 Holecombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030; or Miami Valley School,
5151 Dennise Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45429.
