Just to keep things interesting, I have found that we have more problems
with the Westmate software than we do with the LEXIS software. In
particular, the Westmate for Windows software, even in its most recent
version, has required extensive modification in order to get it to
reliably hang up the phone and reset properly. Even after these changes,
it still occasionally refuses to drop the connection, and worse, it will
solidly lock up the entire windows session if you try to use another comm
program after this happens. Only a cold reboot will clear the condition.
We have found the LEXIS for Windows software to be pretty much 'plug and
play', with no special changes required.
These seeming contradictions do, however, indicate to me that both
companies should improve the actual telecomm portions of their programs,
particularly now that high speed, error correcting modems are coming into
more common use.
