Lexis

(Readers of both LAW-LIB and TEKNOIDS please forgive the
cross posting.)

Do any of you have the impression that Lexis communications
software is more finicky than similar packages from other
sources? When I am dialing in at home, it rarely takes less than
a couple of tries to get through to Lexis. I have no similar
problems signing on to Westlaw, my university's mainframe, or
local bulletin boards with the same modem and computer.

At my law library the problem is worse. Users frequently
have to put up with a succession of black boxes on the screen and
such cumbersome procedures as flicking the modem off and on.
Eventually we get through, but the frustration level is high. We
have the same problems with both DOS and Windows. On the other
hand, we have no trouble at all dialing Westlaw. Our
telecommunications people claim there is nothing wrong with our
telephone lines, and nothing Lexis tells us to do seems to bring
any improvement.
