Rich:
With regard to your query about the New York Times dropping off on Nexis,
this has not happened, but there has been a change in the NYT-Nexis
relationship. See the New York Times, Dec. 3, 1994 ("Times Co. Regains
Control of Electronic Rights to Paper"). A new 10-year deal frees the
Times to provide its archival electronic contents to services other than
Nexis. This may lead to archival NYT on Compuserve, Prodigy, America
Online, etc. "Reed Elsevier will then retain exclusive rights only in
electronic services distributed to professionals in the field of law."
I.e., no New York Times archives on Westlaw.
Although this is just a first step, it joins the AMA journals as an
indication that the contents of online services are subject to change.
One more thing to give us pause when we replace paper or microform with
online access.
