The following message on how to register was posted on ARIE-L that
may be of interest to the law library community.
=================================================================
Ariel users,
Several of you have asked about the order of entries in the
directory of Ariel users. As we mentioned in the past, directory
entries are sorted by site name. If you're using Ariel for Windows,
you enter the site name and all other directory information yourself
when you use the Registration command from the Help menu. If
you need to update your directory information, just use the
Registration command again. Your new information should show up in
the directory files within 24 hours.
Quite a few of you still have directory entries that don't use an
appropriate site name. The name should start with THE MOST GENERAL
PART OF YOUR ORGANIZATION'S NAME, for example, "University of X" or
"X University", depending on how your organization is known. You
can add departmental info after that in the site name field or on
the additional address lines. If you have more than one Ariel site
in your organization, make sure the site names for each of them take
the same form. That way they'll all sort together in the directory
listing.
Also, when you first registered, some of you seem to have included
notes that may now be out-of-date. Please use the Registration
command to remove these notes or provide more current information.
A few more points about registration information:
* Ariel for Windows users can register within Ariel itself. Ariel
for DOS users need to e-mail a registration form, appended below,
to:
bl.jpl@rlg.stanford.edu
Please make sure to use the form exactly as it appears below, so
we can add your information as quickly as possible.
* If you used the old DOS version of Ariel (1.12), you still need
to send in a registration form for the new DOS version (2.x).
* Ariel for Windows users can change their registration data at any
time using the Registration command. If the IP address of your
Ariel PC changes. however, you need to do the following:
- Re-register from the machine with the new IP address
- Send an e-mail message to bl.jpl@rlg.stanford.edu asking to have
the registration data for the old IP address removed
* You can get the directory of registered Ariel users in the
following ways:
- Through anonymous FTP to lyra.stanford.edu. Directory names and
files are:
/pub/ariel/waridir.txt <--- complete directory
/pub/ariel/waridir7.txt <--- directory changes for last 7 days
/pub/ariel/wariadr.txt <--- brief address list
/pub/ariel/wariadr7.txt <--- list changes for last 7 days
- On the World Wide Web (using Netscape, Mosaic, etc.) at URL:
http://www-rlg.stanford.edu/aridir.html
If you have questions about the directory of Ariel users or about
Ariel registration, please let me know.
