It seems each year at budget time we are asked to revisit the issue of
billing librarians' time. To assist our library manager with this I have
been asked to survey other firms regarding their practice. So, if you are
able to answer any or all of the following questions I would appreciate
your assistance:
1. Are your librarians expected to bill for their time?
2. If so, what is the rationale and what are the annual guideline hours
required?
3. How much do they charge per hour?
4. If not, what is the rationale...how do they justify their time?
5. Is any firm now charging premium rates for certain types of librarian
research? If so, how much, and for what?
TIA for any help you can give. -- Barb Haeny, reference librarian
