7th Amendment's $ 20.00

Here's an interesting question:

The 7th Amendment to the Constitution
reads, "[i]n Suits at common law, where
the value in controversy shall exceed
twenty dollars, the right of trial by
jury shall be preserved, . . . "

This sentence was drafted in 1787 and
the Amendment has not been amended since.
Does anyone have an idea what this might
mean in today's dollars -- i.e., how much
was $ 20.00 worth back then?
