Boy Scouts

I have to say I disagree with Ruth Parlin's view on this issue. Although I no
longer have Mark's original posting, I recall that it involved a troop of
Explorer Scouts who were coming to the law firm to learn about career
opportunities.

Why should we pass up an opportunity to interest young people in the
profession of law librarianship just because they are members of a scout
troop? We spend a lot of time talking about recruiting to the profession and
conveying to people the excitement of working in libraries. When one of our
colleagues has the chance to do just that and seeks our advice, we would be
wrong to deny him access to this forum. I hope that as a profession we can
remain open-minded, or we will surely not have a profession worth promoting.
