Boy Scouts

Sorry for the time lag in posting, but I finally decided that I couldn't
let Mark Estes' posting about helping the Boy Scouts go unremarked.

As Mark and many other AALL members doubtless know, the Boy Scouts have
come under fire lately for their discriminatory practices related to gay
males and to atheists/agnostics (groups protected under AALL's anti-
discrimination policy). The United Way in San Francisco and several
corporate sponsors have withdrawn their financial support from the Boy
Scouts because of these discriminatory policies.

As individuals, law librarians, and AALL members we have every right to
assist discriminatory groups or organizations. If law-lib subscribers
choose to assist such groups, that's your decision.

Posting that decision to the list and asking for help is, in my view,
entirely offensive to list members who are also members of the discriminated-
against groups. I found Mark's posting grossly insensitive, and I hope
never to see a similar posting on this list.
