I am in the process of reviewing our circulation policy for treatises and
law reviews and journals for the following patrons: Law students, Non-law faculty, Graduate and Undergraduate students
and local residents. I am interested in compiling and comparing the circulation policies of
other law libraries for these user groups and materials.
Our policy is as follows:
Law students: Treatises 3 weeks Law reviews circulate internally only
to students with carrels. Journals (call numbers other than K 1-30)
circulate for three weeks.
All others (Non-law faculty, Grads, Undergrads, Local residents)
Treatises and journals with call nos. other than K 1-30: 3 weeks
Law Reviews: Do not circulate externally.
Core material (case reporters, state material does not circulate externally
and cannot be checked out to carrels.
What do other law libraries do?
Treatises:
Law students:
Non-law faculty:
Graduate students:
Undergraduate students:
Local residents:
Law reviews/Jounrals
Law students:
Non-law faculty:
Graduate students:
Undergraduates:
Local residents:
I have been at NDL since 1979, and our current policy does not
reflect the need changes of our users. More term papers are assigned and more
people are expressing a need to use the law reviews/journals and may or may
not want to make a copy. Also, we are in a very open environment (security
is somewhat of a problem) and think that the flexiblity will afford us more
control. You can reply directly to me or through the list; perhaps others
would also be interested in knowing what is going on out there.
Thanks for your help.
