COMPUTER, ELECTRONIC SERVICES, AND NETWORKING MANAGER
The University of Tennessee College of Law Library is seeking candidates for a
new position which will help expand its educational mission. The Computer,
Electronic Services, and Networking Manager will act as the Law Library's
principle facilitator with the world of electronic information sources and
services. This position will have significant input into planning for
electronic and computer assisted services over the short and long term. The
Manager will have significant training responsibilities throughout the College
of Law and Law Library. With the planning and construction of a new building,
this position offers an opportunity to a dynamic individual interested in
participating in the Law Library and College of Law plan for the effective
application of new technological possibilities to help meet information and
research needs.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creation of long and short range plans for the use of computer-based technology
by the Law Library and the College of Law.
Integration of computer-based technology into the research activities of the
Law School faculty.
Training Law Library staff, faculty, and students in the use of computer-based
technology.
Promotion of the use of technology among faculty, students, and staff.
Creation of guides and other forms of user-friendly documentation to assist
staff and patrons with the use of computer-based end-user products.
Day-to-day trouble shooting and simple maintenance and repairs for all Law
Library and College of Law owned computers and software.
Supervision of a staff of clerical and student workers.
Development as an expert in all aspects of the Internet and training those in
the Law School community in the use of the services available via the Internet.
Participation in the selection, implementation and maintenance of a Law Library
and College of Law local area network (LAN).
Investigation and recommendation of computer-based technology for possible
acquisition by the Law Library.
Functioning as the primary Law Library liaison with computer-based technology
vendors.
Functioning as the Law Library liaison with University Computing Center and
University libraries computer services personnel on the University of Tennessee
Knoxville campus (including the comprehension, maintenance, and use of cutting-
edge information) on computer-based technology and translation of this
information into plans that will further the educational and research mission
of the Law Library.
Active representation of the Law Library in the technology/informational world.
(Some anticipated activities include: writing; attendance at relevant meetings a

and presentations; active participation in related organizations and
associations; and reporting on these activities.)
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or similar program) or M.L.S. from ALA
accredited school with an extensive background in computer coursework;
knowledge of PC applications, databases, and software; desire to train; ability
to work successfully both independently and as part of a team; self-starter;
excellent writing and oral skills; and desire to become expert in all aspects
of information technology as they are related to academic law libraries are
necessary.
DESIRED:
Experience with computer applications as related to libraries; experience
working in a law library; and teaching experience.
SALARY:
