As the mother of one son and no daughters, I expressed the opinion last
year that if women are eventually to be truly equal, it is as important
for my son to know that women can be anything as it is for others'
daughters. As long as boys are raised without that feeling, girls will be
fighting an uphill battle. The response (with which I am forced to
agree) was that as long as boys get more attention in mixed sex settings,
girls will benefit from having a special time alone. But I think we'll
benefit from a separate Take Our Kids to Work Day. I also want kids of
both sexes to know how hard, fun and rewarding it is to work in a law
firm library.
