Hi Fay:
According to _The Underground Guide to UNIX_, "Sometimes you'll see files on
a server whose name ends in .Z or .ZIP. The first type have been compressed
with the UNIX compress utility, the latter with the DOS PKZIP (or GZIP)
utility. You'll have to uncompress them before you can use them."
My best guess is that these .GZ files are GZIPPED files - which might mean
that you'd need GZIP (or GUNZIP?) to uncompress them.
_Internet for Dummies_ goes on: "You can get GZIP and GUNZIP at GNU files at
ftp.uu.net, DOS version in the SIMTEL repository at oak.oakland.edu or
wuarchive.wustl.edu. It should be GZIP123.ZIP in /msdos/compress"
Good luck!
