According to The Am Law 100 for the last three
years, B & K's profits per partner were as
follows:
1991 $372,000
1992 $415,000
1993 $355,000
When you lose $70,000 per partner from one year
to the next, it's obviously time to tighten your
belt, and guess whose belt gets tightened first?
Has B & K sacrificed the job security of its own
loyal employees to do what so many ruthless
businesses have done? Just to save a few bucks
on health benefits and paid vacations? It's a
disgrace.
The effect on an individual when their livelihood
is eliminated with no notice must be as severe as
being mugged on the street. The only difference
is its done by people you know. My heart goes out
to out to the former librarians at B & K.
The corporate conscience in this country has to
change dramatically or else we will all be potential
victims of a falling bottom line.
