I posted this query regarding whether or not law firms had fixed
fee agreements with both online services to a couple of list
servers and was asked to summarize results.
Of the few who responded, most, though reluctant to divulge any
info covered by non-disclosure clause, had fixed fee agreements
with both Westlaw and Lexis and were covering monthly overhead
expenses. One library canceled one of the services entirely and
went with the other service and seemed satisfied with the choice.
As to charging clients, there are various responses to this.
Some firms will not charge printing, others charge a flat per
minute fee...almost all libraries have reduced client charges
using the fixed fee program.
