Anything is better than volume count, I suppose, except, perhaps
volume counts per student. This just magnifies the effect of having a
small student population or no evening program. I don't see much
point in titles per student either.

Dollars per student and book dollars per student makes some sense,
especially if "book" includes non-book and electronic information
sources. It quantifies the actual effort going into the collection,
and the two figures together give some sense of the balance between
resources allocated to information materials vs. information services/
personnel respectively.

I still think that any dollar figures should be given as a five year
total, or at least a five year average, so that peaks and troughs
are smoothed out a bit. Even the best institutions have occasional
bad years and occasional windfall years.==================================================
